Scholarship details

Who can apply

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships include research awards for postgraduate researchers in any discipline and art awards for students pursuing their first Master’s degree at a Swiss conservatory or art school. Art awards are limited to applicants from eligible countries. Research applicants must have a Swiss academic supervisor who is willing to guide the proposed project. Eligibility and available award types depend on the applicant’s country of origin; confirm the current country-specific call before applying.

Funding and costs

The official overview lists CHF 2,450 per month for research, PhD and art scholarships to cover one person’s basic living expenses. This is a scholarship, not a salary. The award does not cover tuition or semester fees, which may still be charged by the institution. Some additional benefits, such as health-insurance premiums for eligible non-EU/EFTA scholars, a rental-deposit grant, a Half-Fare Travelcard or a return-flight allowance, are subject to the official conditions. Conference and field-research costs are not covered.

Deadline, documents, and language requirements

There is no single deadline shown for every country on the central overview. Check the current call published for your country of origin and the relevant Swiss representation. The central page does not provide one universal document list; follow the current country-specific call and institution instructions. The linked source does not establish a general IELTS waiver; check the language requirements of the chosen institution and program.
